Get Your Roll On
This sushi contest is on a roll! In its second year,Get Your Roll On was bigger and better than ever. Held at the South Carolina Aquarium, the judged competition highlighted some of Charleston’s finest chefs, restaurants and their signature sushi roll recipes. Competing restaurants included J.Paul’z, O-Ku, Tsunami, Sushi Ninja, Tasti Thai and Local’s. For those who wanted more than sushi, other food options were available, and beer, wine and specialty sake drinks were also served up. A portion of the proceeds from the event went to Darkness to Light, a program that raises awareness of the prevalence and consequences of child sexual abuse.

Charleston Beer Garden Fest
Brittlebank Park off Lockwood Drive was transformed into a German biergarten Saturday for the inaugural Charleston Beer Garden Festival. Attendees enjoyed craft brews, including several from South Carolina, while listening to live music from the likes of Southwood, Megan Jean & the KFB, Shovels & Rop, and Long Miles. Food trucks were corralled onsite and offered up tasty treats. There also was beer school classes, cornhole, a photo booth and more.

Beard & Moustache Championship
The Holy City Beard & Moustache Society hosted the third annual Southeastern Beard & Moustache Championships. Competition categories included sideburns, goatee, moustache, groomed beard, college beard, freestyle, ladies artificial (moustache & beard), gray beard, best in show and full beard natural. Proceeds for the event at the Music Farm, 32 Ann St., went to Lowcountry Women With Wings, which provides ovarian cancer awareness, education and support services to women diagnosed with ovarian cancer, their caregivers and families.
